Newfields Engagement Session

Featuring Brooke & Michael at The Gardens at Newfields in Indianapolis, IN

Nestled in the heart of downtown Indianapolis, Newfields offers a backdrop of greenery and unique architecture that you can’t find in many places within the city. Starting mid-April, the gardens come to life with colorful flowers and trees that are perfect for a spring engagement session at Newfields. After having to postpone their engagement session due to a late spring frost, we still have beautiful blooms and golden light for Brooke and Michael’s engagement session.

What Newfields Offers

The Garden at Newfields spans across 52 acres and includes six different gardens to explore during your engagement session. My personal favorite being the Allée, which includes a path of flowers in the spring, a large fountain, and a perfect view of the Lilly House framed in the background. As you follow the path behind the Lilly House, you’ll see the iconic arches overlooking the nature park located behind Newfields. This spot is absolutely gorgeous at sunset and a must have for any engagement session at Newfields.

For Brooke and Michael, the most important spot for their photos was the Wood Formal Garden. This is where Michael proposed to Brooke so we made sure to grab some photos at the exact spot she said “Yes!”

Know Before You Go

There are a few things to keep in mind before you head to Newfields for your engagement session to ensure you are fully prepared.

  1. You must reserve a day and time for your session by purchasing a photo permit prior to your session. Permits can be purchased online for $50 + taxes.

  2. Newfields offers a variety of seasonal events throughout the year that include decorations throughout the Gardens. Some spots may have themed decor like pumpkins or Christmas lights depending on the time of year.

  3. The Garden has varying hours depending on the day and is not always open until sunset. Make sure to check their website for current hours and events.

  4. Be respectful of the grounds and guests. Stay on any designated paths and do not walk through, sit, or take flowers from in the flower beds. Remember to Leave No Trace and keep all areas as beautiful as they were when you arrived.

  5. Not all the bathrooms throughout the Gardens are open during the year. Make sure you stop in the Museum or have a plan for changing outfits during your session.
